500-kv transmission line maintenance project
Salt River Project linemen completed a 500-kv transmission line inspection project this week inspecting more than 380 towers that serve the utility’s more than 1 million customers each day. A 15-man crew completed the project on the transmission lines located west of Phoenix, which feed electricity from Palo Verde to the West Wing Receiving Station.
Linemen are lowered to the towers from a helicopter and climb down 150 feet to the ground while inspecting for any defects or damage. These towers are part of a critical infrastructure that remain in power during the project. The linemen receive hours of training and are attached to the towers the entire climb as they make their way down to the ground.
